Annie Fitzsimmons has built a career at the intersection of travel and media, most recently joining the editorial team at Virtuoso as digital editor. She remains an Editor-at-large at National Geographic Traveler, where she pitched and created the vision for an entirely new brand as National Geographic’s first and only Urban Insider, focusing on cities, culture, and lifestyle, and was a founding member of their Editorial Council. Her enthusiasm for the stories that can only be found while traveling have captured the attention of a global audience and inspired others to get out and explore the world for themselves. Annie has traveled to six continents and will make it to Antarctica one day!
Annie’s expertise lies in an old-school meets cutting-edge approach across a constantly changing media landscape. Within National Geographic, Annie leveraged her personality status and engaged social following to cross-promote brand initiatives across print, digital and social media. She was selected to write the foreword to their annual travel coffee table book, The World’s Best Cities, and served as spokesperson through radio and media interviews. With Urban Insider, she wrote and executed on an editorial calendar, creating content with a producer and editor.
She has an in-depth understanding of the complex world of advertising and sponsorships and appeared in national campaigns for travel and lifestyle brands like Mexico, Maui Jim, Quebec City, Colonial Williamsburg. She also been the main talent in national TV commercials, including for Transitions Lenses and Buick.
Along with National Geographic Traveler, Annie’s widely published work on travel, hotels, experiences, dining, health/wellness, and lifestyle can be found published in prominent brands such as USA Today, Yahoo! Travel, Forbes, Travel + Leisure, CNN, Virtuoso Life, Luxury Travel Advisor, Robb Report, American Express media, and in regional publications like Gotham and Hamptons. She has shared her thoughts and expertise on the industry as a speaker at events around the world, including Ritz-Carlton regional meetings, World Travel Market in London, the International Tourism Conference in Latvia (keynote speaker, sponsored by the U.S. Embassy), the Hospitality World Congress in Barcelona and ILTM (International Luxury Travel Mart) Americas in Mexico.

Her work as a travel writer and blogger has been significantly enhanced by prior experience in the travel industry, from hotel communications, to time as an international tour guide for luxury companies, bringing with her an extensive network in television, radio, hotels, restaurants, travel agents, and visitor boards. She is known for her interview skills and has connected with a wide range of A-list luminaries in business, technology, entertainment, and fashion. Annie has also consulted for top brands including Four Seasons Hotels & Resorts, Travel Channel, and gourmet grocery legend Eli Zabar.
Beyond her dedicated, enthusiastic devotion to her job and the travel industry, she is happiest having afternoon tea, and on marathon walks and bike rides exploring new places. She is also a licensed New York City tour guide, and loves giving tours in her spare time. Annie is from Scottsdale, Arizona but loves her home in Brooklyn, with her rescue dog, Rocco.
